AN EVENING WITH VICTOR EHIKHAMENOR & NKEM IVARA
Book lovers and literary enthusiasts are invited
to a UK public reading from new books by Victor
Ehikhamenor and Nkem Ivara. The event will include conversations on African
writing and publishing.
While Ehikhamenor will be reading from his bestselling
nonfiction book Excuse Me,, Nkem
Ivara will read from her romance novel e-book Closer than a Brother. The event will hold on 6 April, 2013. Writer, Ike Anya will moderate the event and conversations will be led by literary critic, Ikhide
Ikheloa.
Inua
Ellams, a word and graphic artist, will animate at
the event with his poetry performance, described as work of “deeply original
beauty.” Ellams is an acclaimed performance poet, who has appeared at events organized
by the BBC, Tate Modern, British Museum, The Royal Opera House, amongst others.

Victor
Ehikhamenor, author of Excuse Me, is a Nigerian
artist, writer, photographer, and news media designer. In 2006 the department
of English at the University Of Maryland, College Park awarded him a
fellowship/scholarship to pursue a Masters of Fine Art in Creative Writing. His
art and photographs have been used as book covers by award-winning authors like
Chimamanda Adichie, Helon Habila, Unoma Azuah, Tony Kan and many others. He
worked at NEXT newspapers as the creative director, as well as at the Daily
Times Nigeria as CEO/Editor-in-Chief. His short story, The Supreme Command, won the Association of Commonwealth
Broadcasters Award; and his poetry collection, Sordid Rituals, was published in 2002.
Nkem
Ivara (nee Ugoji) was born in the UK and
spent her formative years in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. She holds a BA in Foreign
Languages from the University of Port Harcourt. She is passionate about words
and grammar and enjoys reading, playing word games and working out. Her first
novella, Closer than a Brother, an e-Book published by Whispers
Publishing in March 2013, is a contemporary romance set in London. She lives in
the UK with her husband and two sons and maintains a blog, The Wordsmythe’s
Weblog where she writes about anything that takes her fancy.
