Sentinel Nigeria is open to entries for the All-Africa Short Story/Poetry Competition.
The quarterly writing competition is for previously unpublished short stories
in English Language. There are no restrictions on theme or style.
Simultaneous submissions are not allowed. Do not send stories/poems previously
posted to a blog, a website, Facebook or any other social media.
All professional and amateur writers from every part of
Africa living within the continent or in the diaspora are welcome to submit
their works to competitions@sentinelnigeria.org.
Word count for short stories is 1,500 words maximum; For
poetry contest: 50 lines.(maximum)
First Prize: N35,000 (Approx. £140/$220)
Second Prize: N20,000 (Approx. £80/$126)
Third Prize: N10,000 (Approx. £40/$63)
High Commendation: N4,000 x 3 (Approx. £16/$25)
The 3 winning and 3 highly commended stories will receive first publication
in Sentinel Nigeria magazine in February 2013.
ENTRY FEES: N450 or £2.50 ($3.95) per story. You may enter
as many stories as you wish.
Judge (for short story contest): Jude Dibia, author of
Blackbird.
Judge (for poetry): Chiedu Ezeanah, author of The Twilight
Trilogy. A poet, journalist and ex-banker, Ezeanah is the Chief Executive of
Paradigm-City Publishing, Abuja, Nigeria.
The results of this competition and the judge’s report will be published on
the 15th of January 2013.
