The fifth Garden City Literary
festival will hold from 15 – 20 October, 2012 in Port Harcourt.
The 2012 edition will have in its
attendance literary giants and human rights activists. According to the GLCF
press release, Véronique TADJO, Lizzy Attree, Doreen Baingana, Chibundu
Onuzo and Noo Saro-Wiwa will be attending the festival as featured writers.
The event shall comprise of book
fairs, drama presentations, special sessions for children, book readings and
creative writing workshops. I attended the 2010 Edition. It was interesting. Although,
i stayed for a few hours where I enjoyed a talk by Reuben Abati and shopped a
bit at the book fair, I thoroughly enjoyed the few hours I spent there. It was
at the event that I bought Buchi Emecheta’s
Head
Above Water. I also got Bessi Head’s
Maru
at the fair. Bessi is one fine writer. You can read about my experience
HERE.
Published and budding writers are
advised to attend at least a day or two of the event. The festival shows a lot
of promise.
So mark your calenders. You can’t
afford to miss the fifth Garden City Literary festival. The festival will start
with the book fairs and writers’ workshops on Monday, 15 October,
2012.
Saturday, 20 October, 2012 will be the last day of the festival. The
event will hold at the Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt.
